Through its commitment to serving local, national, and international communities, the Mount has been recognized in the President’s Higher Education Community Service National Honor Roll. The University is also recognized as a Military Friendly School for services for veterans. The Mount was designated as a 2017–18 Voter Friendly Campus by the Student Affairs Professionals in Higher Education for its dedication to civic education.
Serving the world beyond its front doors is an important part of the Mount’s mission. Its founders, the Sisters of Charity, have been living out that mission in Cincinnati and beyond since the early 1800s.
Service to others is promoted at the Mount through mission trips, volunteer experiences, and service-learning opportunities incorporated into the curriculum. Popular service activities include Habitat for Humanity, Christian Appalachian Project, New Orleans mission trip, and Impact Cincinnati. MSJ’s annual Welcome Week service event occurs in August and invites students, alumni, faculty, staff, and members of the Board of Trustees to begin the academic year by serving with more than 10 community partners located throughout Greater Cincinnati.
