Picture Yourself at Alfred State

At Alfred State, your career is the College’s most important mission. With its emphasis on hands-on, project-based learning, you’ll truly know how to solve problems you’ll face on the job, and acquire the skills and knowledge employers seek.

You may choose from more than 70 majors in such fields as agriculture, business, health, applied and engineering technologies, or the arts and sciences. At Alfred State, you’ll enjoy individual attention and support. Its small class size helps you foster personal connections with your peers, and the faculty will get to know you by name.

The faculty at Alfred State love what they do. That’s why they make excellent mentors, advisers, confidants, and role models. And because they have real-world experience, they are experts in their field and will guide you on real-world projects every day.

A lot of your education also happens outside the classroom. That’s why Alfred State has more than 100 clubs and organizations to choose from. From drama to intramural sports to dancing, your interests can take you places with employers, as well. They look for well-rounded students who jump in and get involved. Alfred State offers 19 intercollegiate sports, as well as plenty of intramurals, plus great facilities for exercise or a quick game of pick-up.

Through the College’s civic engagement programs, you can channel your passions by getting involved in community service, cultural immersion experiences, political involvement, and much more. Alfred State students are born leaders, so civic engagement with a global focus is big on campus, whether it’s leading disaster relief efforts in neighboring communities or out of state, providing care to residents in Haiti, or studying abroad in Sorrento, Italy.

Where you live on campus is also important. Alfred State’s 13 residence halls offer a comfortable setting where you can focus on your studies and just relax after class. The residence halls are designed to fit the needs of its diverse student body, including different types of rooms and halls for students with specific lifestyles.

Alfred State is located in the rural village of Alfred, which lies in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains. The village is a center of education and culture, and mixes a college-town environment with quaintness, scenic beauty, safety, and small-town friendliness. Within a couple hours of the College, you’ll find attractions such as Niagara Falls, Letchworth State Park, Watkins Glen, Corning Museum of Glass, and Finger Lakes wineries.
