Thiel College is a respected, private liberal arts and sciences college located in the heart of scenic northwest Pennsylvania. Founded in 1866 as a coeducational institution and rooted in the Lutheran tradition, the College is committed to connecting a diverse and inclusive community with a quality and personalized learning experience. It’s this distinct combination of exceptional faculty, signature programs (academic, athletic and career), a historic campus and modern facilities that drives the return on investment Thiel graduates receive.
Thiel College is a bold and energetic institution where motivated students connect with:
• transformative opportunities through experiential learning and marquee programs such as accounting, education and neuroscience departments
• engaged faculty who love to teach and want students to succeed
• a caring and inclusive community that fosters personal relationships
• loyal graduates who were recognized for the generosity of their time and resources by Forbes magazine
Physical changes are among the highlights for the campus in 2018. The new Haer Family Science and Arts Connector is named for alumni Fred Haer ’66 and his wife, Jill (Shackett) ’66. Their commitment to connecting science and the liberal arts was the vision that brought the building to fruition. The Haer Family Science and Arts Connector includes new classroom, collaborative, lab and meeting spaces. Students have access to modern research equipment in the new facility. The new track & field complex features a grass infield that increases student intramural and recreational opportunities. Since 2014, the College has added more than 100,000 square feet of academic, athletic and recreational space. The state-of-the-art James Pedas Communication Center has the distinction of being Thiel’s first green certified building. The Communication Center is home to classrooms, collaborative space, advanced television and radio studios, and a 24-hour computer lab. Students of all majors use the communication tools in the Pedas Center as they take courses designed to teach them how to communicate in the 21st century.
The building and facility upgrades are just one of the reasons for excitement on campus. The College has new and outstanding academic, athletic and student-life programs, too. New majors in exercise science and sports management are available as well as a new equine studies minor join the more than 60 outstanding major and minor programs. Those programs were among the reasons Thiel was named a College of Distinction and the Education and Business Administration and Accounting departments were chosen as programs of distinction.
And while those programs were singled out, excellence and successful outcomes are the hallmarks of every graduating class. More than 94 percent of the Class of 2016 reports being employed or in graduate school, which includes 100 percent placement for graduates with majors in
• actuarial studies
• computer science
