Imperial College London’s Global Summer School is a two-week residential programme, specifically designed for 16- and 17-year olds with a passion for science, technology, engineering and medicine.
The programme runs during July and August, providing a unique learning experience for students from across the world – in 2019 the University welcomed students from 49 countries.
A Global Top Ten University
Imperial, located in the heart of London, is consistently ranked in the top ten universities in the world. It is a one-of-a-kind university in the UK, focusing exclusively on engineering, science, medicine and business. Global Summer School offers an opportunity to study at this world leading institution, alongside likeminded students and under the guidance of Imperial staff.
Challenging Academic Programme
Over the course of the two weeks there will be over 50 hours of class time, providing students with the opportunity to take their knowledge to the next level in one of three subject areas: engineering, medicine and life sciences, or physical sciences.
In the first week students will be immersed in their chosen subject stream. They will participate in a range of classroom-based lessons, practical workshops and laboratory sessions, led by Imperial faculty members.
In week two, students from all subjects come together to take part in a team challenge. In mixed subject teams, students will share their specialist knowledge to design and build a solution to a real-world problem. The team challenge allows students to share expertise and develop some of the key skills needed at university.
Packed Social Programme
Alongside the academic programme, there is also a packed schedule of social activities to help students make the most of their time in London and get a real taste for student life. Activities range from trips to the West End, sports sessions, movie screenings, day trips, and an end-of-programme party.
Students will stay in one of Imperial’s halls of residence at its main campus in South Kensington, central London. South Kensington is home to some of London’s most notable landmarks including Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum, the V&A, and the Royal Albert Hall.
Applications for Global Summer School 2020 programme will open in January. Global Summer School welcomes applications from academically excellent students who have an enthusiasm for science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
To apply students must be 16 or 17 years old at the time of attending the programme. They should have received a majority of A+–A grades across all subjects, with a minimum of grade A in math and a relevant science.
