Imperial College London’s Global Summer School is a two-week programme, specifically designed for 16- and 17-year olds with a passion for science, technology, engineering and medicine.
This year, for the safety and security of the students and staff involved, Global Summer School will be hosted online, via Microsoft Teams. Students can choose between two identical sessions, Monday 28 June to Friday 9 July or Monday 13 August to Friday 13 August. The programme provides a unique learning experience for students from across the world – in 2019 the University welcomed students from 49 countries.
A Global Top Ten University
Imperial, located in the heart of London, is consistently ranked in the top ten universities in the world. It is a one-of-a-kind university in the UK, focusing exclusively on engineering, science, medicine and business. Global Summer School offers an opportunity to study with this world leading institution, alongside likeminded students and under the guidance of Imperial staff.
Challenging Academic Programme
Over the course of the two weeks there will be over 50 hours of contact time, providing students with the opportunity to take their knowledge to the next level in one of three subject areas: engineering, medicine and life sciences, or physics.
In the first week students will be immersed in their chosen subject stream. They will participate in a range of lectures, interactive seminars and practical sessions, led by Imperial faculty members.
In week two, students from all subjects come together to take part in a team challenge, led by Imperial Enterprise Lab. In interdisciplinary teams, students will share their specialist knowledge in a challenge designed to develop their entrepreneurial and problem-solving abilities. The team challenge allows students to share expertise and develop some of the key skills needed at university and beyond.
Whilst planning Global Summer School 2021, we have considered the wide range of time zones in which our students live, as well as the fact that our academic staff and mentors are based in the UK.
In order to provide a collaborative, engaging and interactive programme, taught directly by Imperial College London academic staff and supported by current Imperial students, Global Summer School activities will be scheduled within UK working hours (usually 9am – 5pm BST). As such, some sessions may be scheduled outside of typical working hours in your country. By participating in live sessions alongside an international cohort, you will get a taste of life as an Imperial student and gain the most from the Global Summer School experience.
Applications for Global Summer School 2021 programme are now open. Global Summer School welcomes applications from academically excellent students who have an enthusiasm for science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
To apply students must be 16 or 17 years old at the time of attending the programme. They should have received a majority of A+ to B grades across all subjects, with a minimum of grade A in math and a relevant science, and an overall CGPA of 3.2 in the most recent completed grade.
