Hood College: Academic Excellence, Expert Faculty, and Affordability

Hood College knows that pursuing your degree is an investment. That’s why they’re committed to delivering exceptional academic programs like biology, business administration, computer science, nursing, psychology and much more. Experiential learning is a built-in component of Hood’s core curriculum, meaning you’ll have ample opportunities to explore your passions and hone your skills inside and outside of the classroom. From internships and student-faculty research projects to study abroad and fieldwork placements, you’ll gain hands-on experience in real-world settings, whatever major you pursue.

Take Hood’s partnership with Frederick Health, the region’s largest healthcare provider. When you study behavioral and health sciences, you’ll have opportunities to work in hospitals, clinics and primary care practices. Or there’s Hood’s partnership with Kite Pharma, a biopharmaceutical company focusing on cell therapy manufacturing. You can study alongside Kite’s research and development team at their state-of-the-art lab located on Hood’s campus. Through its longstanding partnership with Frederick County Public Schools, you can serve as a student-teacher while pursuing your certification.

Hood’s mission is to provide every Hood student with a meaningful, high-impact learning experience that can be applied to their career. Hood students conduct research on a wide range of topics, such as archaeology, renewable energy and artificial intelligence, and then present their findings at national conferences. You can complete an internship with a state legislator, travel to the U.K. to study global marketing strategies or learn how to protect coastal watersheds at the Chesapeake Bay. At Hood, you can customize your education to meet your personal and professional goals.

Just ask Angel Boardley ’24, a pre-medical biology/biomedical science major who was recently named Intern of the Month by the Maryland Technology Internship Program. Currently, Angel is researching cancer treatments to support medical care for active-duty military personnel and veterans.

“Connecting classroom concepts to practical research in the lab has been an eye-opening experience. These internships play a pivotal role in skill development, granting us a competitive advantage when we embark on our post-college career journeys,” says Angel.

“The hands-on experience has affirmed my desire to continue working in cancer research and further contribute to advancements in this critical area.”

College is about discovery, and the dedicated faculty at Hood are there to guide you every step of the way. Small class sizes and a low student-to-faculty ratio means that your professors truly get to know you. Faculty members will advocate for your success and can connect you with a vast network of prospective employers. These connections with industry leaders are the key to gaining an edge in a highly competitive and constantly evolving job market.
