You Don’t Have to Go Far — to Go Far at William Paterson University

What if you could stay in New Jersey — and still go further than you imagined?

At William Paterson University, students are preparing for what comes next through hands-on experiences, professional connections, and personalized support designed to turn what they learn in the classroom into opportunities beyond it.

And that preparation is producing results. For the Class of 2024, 90 percent of WP graduates were employed or enrolled in graduate school within six months — 7.4 percentage points above the national average for public institutions. WP graduates also reported an average starting salary of $65,049, outpacing the national average for public institutions.

Behind those outcomes is a William Paterson education intentionally designed to connect college with career — and give students opportunities to discover just how far they can go.

Real-World Experience, Built into a WP Education

At William Paterson, career preparation starts well before senior year. Through PowerPaths, WP’s innovative experiential learning program, every undergraduate student connects classroom learning with meaningful, real-world experiences designed to build skills and prepare them for what comes next.

Experiences are flexible and customizable, ranging from internships, job shadowing, and clinicals to faculty-led research, study abroad, student teaching, and civic engagement.

Along the way, students build professional networks, develop career-ready skills, and gain experience they can add to their résumé and transcript. Just as importantly, they learn how to communicate what they’ve gained — giving them the confidence to tell their career story to future employers and graduate schools.

Connections That Can Take You Further

Students can extend that career preparation through opportunities such as the Pesce Family Mentoring Institute, which pairs students one-on-one with successful professionals, including William Paterson alumni and community partners.

Mentors provide personalized advice, industry insights, professional connections, and career guidance. Students participating in the Pesce Family Mentoring Institute achieved a 97 percent career outcome rate.

Together, experiences like PowerPaths and the Pesce Family Mentoring Institute give students opportunities to test their interests, make valuable connections, and graduate with experience that extends beyond the classroom.

Personalized Support to Help You Get There

William Paterson students don’t navigate college — or their future — alone.

From the moment they arrive on campus, students are paired with a dedicated Student Success Team, a coordinated group of professionals who provide individualized guidance throughout their college experience.

Each team includes a professional academic advisor, financial aid counselor, career coach, academic coach, and, beginning sophomore year, a faculty mentor.

Success Teams help students manage course loads, balance responsibilities, access campus resources, and make important decisions about majors, experiential learning opportunities, internships, and careers.

First-year students also participate in weekly Will. Power. 101 classes taught by their professional advisor, helping them develop the skills and connections they need to make a strong start at WP.

Get Ready for a More Powerful Future

At William Paterson, experiential learning, career preparation, and personalized support work together toward one goal: helping students get more from their college experience — and be ready for what comes after it.

Students graduate with more than a degree. They leave with experiences they can talk about, skills they can demonstrate, professional connections they can draw on, and confidence in where they are headed.
