New York Institute of Technology: For the Curious
Every breakthrough starts with a question — with the instinct to ask why, imagine what could be different, and keep searching for a better answer. At New York Institute of Technology (New York Tech), that mindset shapes how students learn, create, and prepare for what comes next. Across disciplines, students explore big questions, test ideas, and put knowledge into practice, turning curiosity into meaningful progress. This is an education for doers, makers, innovators, and healers who aren’t content simply knowing how the world works. They want to know what they can do with it.
Discover Where Curiosity Leads
New York Tech’s undergraduate, graduate, professional, and doctoral programs span six specialized schools and colleges, offering more than 90 degree programs across nearly 50 fields of study. Each combines rigorous academics with applied learning, giving students the opportunity to pursue their interests while developing skills that translate beyond the classroom.
Students benefit from a test-optional admissions policy, competitive merit scholarships, need-based aid, a generous transfer credit policy, an honors college, internship and co-op experiences, and graduate scholarships and assistantships. More than 30 combined and accelerated pathways in health professions, architecture and design, engineering and computing sciences, counseling, and business allow students to earn both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in as few as five years.
Programs continue to evolve alongside emerging industries and workforce needs. New York Tech’s School of Management integrates artificial intelligence throughout its business curriculum, with programs in business, marketing, forensic accounting, analytics, financial technology, and other areas. A new online bachelor’s degree in business provides a cost-effective, convenient way for students to advance their careers.
In engineering, a new bachelor’s degree in civil engineering prepares graduates to design, build, and maintain the infrastructure that supports modern life.
Graduate programs offer flexible full-time, part-time, weekend, and online options, while doctoral programs prepare students to advance research and knowledge in highly specialized fields.
Empowering Students Through Research
Curiosity is at the center of research. By supporting distinguished researchers and investing in advanced equipment and facilities, New York Tech gives students opportunities to investigate complex questions alongside experts in their fields.
A collaborative team from New York Tech and the University of California, Irvine developed the world’s first functional, drug-testable, 3-D-printed human colon model. The model offers new possibilities for studying disease and testing treatments, with the potential to help bring safer, more effective cancer therapies to market faster.
In the College of Engineering and Computing Sciences,
researchers are using artificial intelligence and machine learning, supported by National Science Foundation funding, to develop tools that can help cities respond to climate risks, including flash flooding, energy inefficiency, and fallen trees.
Experiences like these allow students to move beyond learning what is already known and begin asking — and answering — questions of their own.
Where Ideas Take Flight
Curiosity doesn’t stop with discovery. Students are encouraged to take the next step: creating something new.
New York Tech recently launched the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Academy to support aspiring entrepreneurs, backed by a $5 million venture fund that invests in startups from students, faculty, alumni, and external innovators. Through hands-on experiences, mentorship, entrepreneurship courses, and access to advanced facilities, students can develop ideas, test concepts, build prototypes, and explore what it takes to bring a venture to life.
The Entrepreneurship and Technology Innovation Center (ETIC) gives engineering and computing sciences students practical experience working on real-world projects. Through a multi-year contract, students develop prototypes based on patents provided by NASA. Startup Tech Central and Fabrication Labs provide additional spaces for making and experimentation, with 3-D printers, laser cutters, and collaboration areas.
Together, these resources create an environment where curiosity can move from a question to an idea — and from an idea to something tangible.
Turning Curiosity into Careers
Through experiential learning, students connect theory to practice, explore their interests, and discover where their skills can take them. Case studies, competitions, co-op assignments, internships, research, and other hands-on experiences provide meaningful experience before graduation while helping students build confidence and professional connections.
At New York Tech, students don’t have to know exactly where their curiosity will lead when they arrive. They have opportunities to explore, experiment, discover new interests, and turn what they learn into a meaningful career path.
Curiosity isn’t just about asking what’s possible. It’s about having the skills, experience, and confidence to find out.
