Do Great Things at Marymount University

Founded in 1950 by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary (RSHM), Marymount University is a private, coeducational Catholic university offering bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in a wide range of high-demand disciplines. Marymount educates citizen leaders who bring clear minds, ready hands and full hearts to shape a better world.

A Marymount education offers real-world preparation within a full offering of diverse majors that serve emerging, essential and exciting 21st century career tracks — including programs in cybersecurity, health care, business, education, information technology, fashion design and merchandising, criminal justice, biology, interior design and psychology. Distinctive pre-professional tracks are offered in areas such as Pre-Law, Pre-Physical Therapy and Pre-Med.

Ranked No. 2 for most international studies and No. 3 for diversity among top colleges in the South (U.S. News & World Report), Marymount is a thriving and close-knit international community of learners recognized for nurturing a global perspective. Its suburban main campus in Arlington, Va., is just a few Metro stops from all the historical, cultural, entertainment and national/international resources of Washington, D.C.

Educating the Whole Person

Student-centered education is enhanced by small classes (13:1 class ratio), faculty engagement in the classroom and research collaboration, internships for every undergraduate and life-enriching study-abroad programs that help prepare students personally and professionally with a global perspective. Marymount provides a values-based, liberal arts education that promotes both intellectual and spiritual development. All undergraduates take religious studies, theology and philosophy courses as part of their core curriculum. Scholarship and service to others integrate seamlessly into community work, inspiring students to a lifelong devotion to service. Marymount puts an emphasis on intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, student research, hands-on learning and creativity through the DISCOVER Program. Additionally, the Honors Program offers enrichment to highly-motivated students through faculty mentoring, special events on campus and around the D.C. area and a summer study-abroad program at Oxford University. Student Research Conferences and interdisciplinary projects build professional skills as well.

World-Class Internships Come Standard

Internships are a critical component of a Marymount education. Each undergraduate completes at least one internship for academic credit. The University’s proximity to Washington, D.C., provides internships in sites such as Congressional offices, the National Science Foundation, the White House, the F.B.I., Smithsonian museums and the National Institutes of Health. As a result of these kinds of resources and the faculty’s robust professional networks, many students make career connections that lead to job opportunities after graduation.

Ballston Center - A Bold New Era

The new technology-rich Ballston Center represents the dynamic future and collaborative environment Marymount provides its students. The academic building houses all business and technology programs, graduate programs in counseling as well as forensic and legal psychology. The facility features classrooms with large flat-screen high-definition TV’s, digital learning labs, a cybersecurity lab, counseling practitioner labs and a forensic research lab, as well as an auditorium, chapel, library, art gallery, café — even a street-level Starbucks! Student lounges and stairwell landings feature comfy seating and abundant natural light from the floor-to-ceiling windows with spectacular views of the metro area. Students can enjoy relaxing outdoors in the Reinsch Pierce Family Courtyard.

Luxury Student Living in The Rixey

Upper-class undergraduate students can now experience a luxury housing complex in Ballston with apartment-style city living and modern amenities, all within walking distance of the Metro. This exciting new venture also provides significant housing options for graduate students, faculty and staff, families and veterans.

Amenities at The Rixey include an expansive fitness center with Peloton bikes and a yoga room, rooftop deck and club room with views of the D.C. skyline, lounge with cabanas and TV’s, underground parking garage, bike repair station, hot tub, stacked washer and dryer in each unit and full kitchen with dishwasher in every unit.

Student Life Led by Servant Leadership

First-year Marymount students live on campus and close to their classes and labs, with easy access to recreation, cultural events and sports. They choose from comfortable and convenient residence halls, each with its own charm. Themed communities allow students who share interests or career goals to live in proximity to each other. Campus life offers leadership opportunities as well as social, recreational, spiritual and culturally-enriching programs. A commitment of service is at the heart of athletics, student government and more than 30 student organizations that make up MU’s truly vibrant community.

At Marymount University, you are called to do great things in the world and for the world. During Orientation, freshmen are introduced to community service at Volunteer Service Day, emphasized across the curriculum through service projects in the area and abroad. Each Campus Ministry program and event — open to students of all faiths, traditions and beliefs — encourages individuals to examine and deepen their faith and to live ethically responsible lives.

Diverse Athletics that Educate On and Off the Field

Marymount fields 17 NCAA Division III teams in the sports of basketball, lacrosse, soccer, baseball, volleyball, golf, cross country, swimming, tennis and track. The institution is committed to both academic and athletic excellence. Student-athletes give their all for their teams and their studies, while also serving as campus leaders.
