Experience the Power of Niagara University

Founded in 1856, Niagara University is a comprehensive institution, blending the best of a liberal arts and professional education, grounded in a values-based Vincentian tradition. With more than 80 majors (plus more than 60 minors, six pre-professional options, and 4+1 accelerated master’s programs), Niagara students are immersed in meaningful real-world learning opportunities from the moment they set foot on campus. Niagara University continues to bring challenging and innovative educational opportunities to its students that U.S. News & World Report recently rated us as the “Best Value” in all of New York state. Niagara is annually praised for its ability to offer students a high return on their educational investment. Niagara’s colleges of Arts and Sciences; Holszschuh Business Administration; Education; Nursing; and Hospitality, Sport, and Tourism Management, offer programs at the baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral level. All five of the University’s academic colleges have received the highest rankings from the top accreditation boards in their fields. In addition, the University offers an award-winning Academic and Career Exploration program for students who are undecided about their academic major. A student-to-faculty ratio of 11-to-1 and an average class size of approximately 18 allow for personal attention and classroom interaction. The faculty members at Niagara are internationally renowned for their abilities as researchers and teachers, helping students to accomplish their personal and professional goals. As the first Vincentian university established in the United States, Niagara prepares students for success while emphasizing service to the community in honor of St. Vincent de Paul. Students work with numerous community organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics, Opportunities Unlimited, and the United Way. Whether it’s preparing income taxes for the elderly, tutoring urban elementary school students, or conducting breast cancer research with professors, Niagara students strive to assist the less fortunate. This educational approach encourages students to ignite positive change in the lives of others, while developing the technical and critical thinking skills that employers crave. It’s what makes a Niagara degree a coveted 21st-century credential and helps the University’s alumni translate their practical education into top jobs within their career fields. According to a recent survey, 98 percent of NU graduates reported being employed or enrolled in graduate school within one year of graduation. Graduate students at Niagara are also prepared via outstanding academic programs that accentuate one-on-one learning with highly credentialed faculty. The University offers graduate programs in accounting, business, counseling, criminal justice, education, family nurse practitioner, finance, information security and digital forensics, interdisciplinary studies, and sport management, and a Ph.D. in leadership and policy. The NU approach to learning prepares individuals to excel in their career and to be change leaders in their chosen field. Niagara’s beautiful 160-acre campus, updated with more than $80 million in capital improvements in recent years, overlooks the Niagara River Gorge, just four miles north of the world-famous waterfall. The suburban setting combines the old and new; both ivy-covered buildings and modern architectural structures line its picturesque landscape. The University is easily accessible from every major city in the eastern and midwestern United States via the New York State Thruway, both the Buffalo/Niagara International and Niagara airports, and rail and bus service. The location of the campus, adjacent to the international border between the United States and Canada, provides convenient access to transportation hubs and global learning opportunities for its students. University sports teams compete on the Division I level and are members of the NCAA, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, and the Atlantic Hockey Association. Intercollegiate sports for men include baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, ice hockey, soccer, swimming and diving, and tennis. Intercollegiate sports for women include basketball, bowling, cross country, golf, lacrosse, outdoor track and field, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, and volleyball. Among the many student services offered at Niagara are an on-campus Health Center, which provides inpatient and outpatient care; the Office of Academic Support, which provides free tutoring services; the Office of Campus Activities, which presents more than 100 extracurricular and co-curricular clubs and experiences; the Kiernan Recreation Center; and the Career Center, which offers professional and career counseling. Niagara also continues to strengthen the financial aid packages that it offers to students, with $50 million in university-sponsored aid issued last year. From merit-based scholarships, achievement awards, and grants to generous monetary assistance for veterans and nurses, Niagara is doing all that it can to help students attain an affordable world-class education.
