NYIT: Home of Generation “Maker-Doer”
New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) comprises a diverse, engaged community of doers, makers, and innovators — bright, ambitious, digitally astute thinkers who are poised to reinvent the future. The University’s caring, expert faculty and staff provide a student experience that inspires critically creative thinking in academic programs that are infused with technology. They collectively empower graduates to change the world and solve 21st-century challenges in fields ranging from medicine, life sciences, and health care to computer science, engineering, and business to digital arts, architecture, and interior design. “We pride ourselves on meeting our students where they are and taking them to where they want to be,” says NYIT President Henry C. “Hank” Foley, Ph.D. “We join them on their journey as they evolve both personally and professionally.” It’s this personal, future-focused approach that draws nearly 10,000 students from nearly 100 countries to NYIT campuses in Long Island and New York City, Arkansas, and Vancouver to experience the myriad ways NYIT connects them to careers they care about. Each academic program establishes core competencies while addressing new disciplines and fields like data science, UI/UX, eSports, biotechnology, and more. At NYIT, a “maker/doer” culture fosters invention, innovation, interdisciplinary efforts, and entrepreneurship as necessary elements of a modern college education. Dedicated faculty members, including award-winning scientists, engineers, technologists, digital designers, and physicians, help students reach their potential and put their education to the test in real-world environments. Take undergraduate biotechnology major Olivia Albert, who experienced the life of professional researcher through a summer research position at Albert Einstein College of Medicine (this after working with NYIT scientists on two separate projects to study endocytosis and bacteria resistance). Or mechanical engineering student Patrick Ruggiero, who — along with an NYIT classmate — received a prestigious Undergraduate Research and Entrepreneurship Program mini-grant to study the heart’s mitral valve by running simulations on 3-D computer models. And it was NYIT students Constanza Cabrera and Vignesh Harish, interns at IBM last summer, who landed first place in a companywide cybersecurity hackathon that spanned three days with 400 contestants (no surprise — Vignesh is now working full-time as an IBM cybersecurity engineer). These are just a few of the many student success stories NYIT proudly shares. The University’s 90 undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree and certificate programs are recognized by prominent rankings organizations and accrediting agencies for their incredible value and outcomes. NYIT is among the Best Regional Universities (North) and undergraduate engineering programs ranked by U.S. News & World Report. It’s also dedicated to fostering a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion, as evidenced by high ranking for Ethnic and Economic Diversity among Regional Universities (North). But perhaps most impactful for families, NYIT ranked No. 7 among Nonprofit (Master’s) Institutions in the U.S. for the highest mobility rates for student income earnings post-graduation, according to The Chronicle of Higher Education . Moreover, NYIT is ranked among the top 15 percent of all U.S. colleges for Salary Potential of Graduates and the top 25 percent of Best Schools for Engineering by Salary Potential in the annual PayScale College Salary Report. The New York Advantage New York is one of the world’s greatest locations to live and learn, and NYIT offers two distinct “New York experiences” at campuses near Lincoln Center in the heart of Manhattan and on the North Shore of Long Island in Old Westbury, N.Y. And while the city and a private education may seem expensive, the decision to enroll at NYIT makes sound financial sense, particularly for local students who crave the advantages of sticking close to home. The University offers generous financial aid and scholarship packages and is one of the lowest private tuitions in New York State, so NYIT students don’t need to overextend themselves financially. Veterans Welcome NYIT has always welcomed veterans, who are often experiencing multiple commitments and challenges. Flexible schedules and services help veterans succeed in their academic, professional, and personal endeavors as they juggle family, work and service to their country. The University’s commitment to veterans is evidenced by its ranking among the Best Colleges for Veterans as reported by U.S. News & World Report and being designated a Gold-level Military Friendly School. NYIT also offers two programs specifically tailored to veterans: the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement program (providing veterans with additional financial assistance for tuition and fees that exceed benefits available under the Post 9/11 GI Bill) and Troops to Teachers (providing help as veterans transition from military service to teaching K-12 classrooms while earning a master’s degree in childhood education). Reinvent Your Future with NYIT NYIT graduates can be found around the world: leading multinational corporations or establishing innovative startups, designing award-winning skyscrapers or reporting the news as a network anchor, solving the latest computer security breach or saving lives in the operating room or research lab. Alumni include renowned scientists, physicians, executives, entrepreneurs, and visionaries who have served in senior positions for organizations that include Univision, IBM, FitBit, AMC Networks, Google, the U.S. Army, NYPD, Nielsen Holdings, Yale School of Medicine, The Disney Channel, CNN, McGraw-Hill, Univision, Bear Stearns, AIG, and many more. New York Institute of Technology looks forward to helping the next generation of students create their own futures, giving them the tools and opportunities to succeed wherever their passion takes them.
