Fordham University: The Jesuit University of New York

A Fordham education blends a rigorous curriculum with the resources, culture, and energy of New York City — a unique combination by any measure. Fordham students serve as interns at the United Nations and are mentored by CEOs of Fortune 500 companies. They win Google Lime Scholarships and capture prestigious Fulbright Fellowships and international Gates-Cambridge Scholarships. As the Jesuit University of New York, Fordham is a place where talent and intellect are truly nurtured and dreams are achieved.

Academic Excellence

Students choose from a variety of majors and minors in the liberal arts, sciences, and business, and complete a rich core curriculum that spans literature, history, science, religion, philosophy, and the arts. Special offerings include honors programs, involvement in original research, long and short-term study-abroad opportunities, dual-degree programs with Fordham’s six graduate schools, and pre-professional programs in law, medicine, and other health professions.

More than 15,000 students are enrolled at the University — including 9,258 undergraduates — and Fordham is dedicated to offering personalized attention and advice to each of them. The student-to-faculty ratio is 15:1 and the average class size is 22.

Fordham students regularly win prestigious scholarships and fellowships — Fulbright, Truman, Clare Booth Luce, Beinecke, Gates-Cambridge, Goldwater, Ford, and National Science Foundation, to name a few. Fordham’s Campion Institute for the Advancement of Intellectual Excellence, also known as the Office for Prestigious Fellowships, is designed to shepherd students through the application process.

New York City Is Fordham’s Campus

Fordham draws students from across the country who want to live and learn while immersed in the diversity and opportunity of a world capital. Benefiting from an extensive internship program, students can choose from more than 2,600 opportunities in business, communications, education, government, health care, biomedical research, law, the arts, and other fields. New York City not only provides unparalleled internship and career advantages, but also a never-ending list of things to see and do — from Broadway theater, museums, and music to professional sports or a bike ride through Central Park.

Two Distinct Locations

Fordham has two residential campuses. Rose Hill, adjacent to the New York Botanical Garden and the Bronx Zoo, is a quintessential green, leafy college campus featuring beautiful Gothic architecture. The Lincoln Center campus is located in the cultural heart of New York City, a landscaped urban oasis near Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Central Park, Columbus Circle, and the headquarters of major international organizations. Both campuses are easily accessible by public and private transportation. Enjoying the academic and student life of both is convenient with the University’s Ram Van service, which operates between the two campuses as well as to local airports and Fordham’s Calder Center.

More than 180 student organizations offer a remarkable range of activities. Student life programming also capitalizes on the resources of New York City and a mosaic of cultural experiences. An extensive athletics program includes 22 varsity sports and a range of club and intramural sports. Reflecting the values-centered education that is a Fordham hallmark, students engage in one million total hours of service on average each year, locally and in distant corners of the world.

With its two distinctive residential campuses, Jesuit traditions of academic excellence and care for each student, and the great city of New York as its partner, Fordham offers students virtually unlimited opportunities for learning and personal growth. It’s no wonder that Fordham students say, “New York is my campus. Fordham is my school.”
