SUNY Corning Community College: Believe It. Become It. Be You.

“Community colleges are our most powerful engine of prosperity," first lady (and community college professor) Dr. Jill Biden said in a USA Today article.

Dr. Biden is right — starting an educational journey at a community college can lead to a bright and prosperous future for those who embark upon it.

Community college is a great way to start or return to college — and in many ways, better than jumping right into a four-year school. Why? Community college offers you a fast start right into post-secondary education. There’s a lot to get accomplished in that short time and it can be challenging. But, it does prepare you for the workforce — and for life.

Community colleges are affordable and convenient. Financial aid, grants and scholarships are widely available and prospective students are encouraged to research and seek out every opportunity. The financial aid office at SUNY Corning Community College is a good place to start.

In a 2015 AOL.com interview, Dr. Biden said, “Because of the flexibility that community colleges afford, many students do not have to choose between an education and fulfilling other responsibilities — they can do both.”

SUNY Corning Community College, located in the Southern Tier of New York in Corning and Elmira, offers many pathways, such as health care, engineering, business, computer sciences and more. It even has a Mechatronics program starting this coming Fall semester! Consider, for example, cybersecurity. You can get started at community college, earn some certificates, transfer, head to graduate school and enter a very high-paying and in-demand field.

A Journey of 1,000 Miles

A degree in just about any field can prepare you for opportunities in many fields you may not have even considered. Cybersecurity skills can be applied to marketing, finance, manufacturing and more. Cybersecurity is more than just stopping hackers — and just about every industry, and every job, relies on properly using, maintaining and securing computer data. It is as vital a skill as working a telephone.

That’s one of the best benefits of community college — you can explore a pathway that may seem pretty narrow, but you can apply that knowledge in unimaginable ways later in life and career.

Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu wrote: “A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” You take the journey; community college is the first step.

SUNY Corning Community College offers a first-rate education and hands-on learning. Courses often involve actual work in labs and may include workforce partnerships with industries in the community. At SUNY Corning, you’ll focus on learning, not just “going to college.”

20 or 228 Miles from Home — No Problem

SUNY Corning offers plenty of clubs, activities, theater, music, recreation, trips and sports. SUNY Corning offers great opportunities to stand-out athletes because they won’t have to compete with juniors and seniors for parts or positions.

Not all community colleges offer on-site housing, but SUNY Corning does! Living on campus, in Perry Hall, is convenient, with all the College has to offer only steps away, including opportunities to meet new and diverse people from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio and all sorts of places as well as different cultures and countries.

Even if your home is close to the college, choosing on-campus housing gives you the opportunity to live independently and explore the world away from home — and still be close enough to visit family and friends when you want. On-campus living is safe, convenient and fun. What better way to get that full college experience than to experience it right in the center of it all?

Take the First Step

Students can enroll at SUNY Corning at just about any time of the year. There are options for on-site, online and hybrid classes. The fall semester at SUNY Corning Community College begins August 22, 2022 and there are two Summer terms starting in May and July.

Talk to one of the College’s Admissions Reps or contact the College’s admissions office at 607-962-9151 to find out when you can enroll in the program you choose, whether it’s cybersecurity, health sciences, engineering, mechatronics, sustainability or anything else.
