Lead the Pack at Alvernia University

Alvernia University is a private liberal arts university guided by Franciscan values that serves a diverse student body of 3,000 students who hail from 25 states and 14 countries. Located in Berks County — just three miles from the heart of historic Reading, Pennsylvania — Alvernia is an easy car ride to some of the Northeast’s major metropolitan areas. With more than 50 undergraduate majors and minors, Alvernia offers students its unique blend of a rigorous liberal arts core for development of the mind, strong technical training in high-demand majors, experiential learning through study abroad and internship experiences, and community engagement through its service model. The University calls this the Alvernia Advantage, and believes it transforms students into ethical leaders with moral courage. As one of only 22 Franciscan institutions in the Country, the University’s values influence all that it does. From curriculum to culture, Alvernia students learn to care about others and to be cognizant of social justice, equality and human dignity — qualities needed in our society — now, more than ever. Alvernia’s Reading CollegeTowne initiative and its new downtown metropolitan complex will be a dynamic extension of main campus. This new facility will not only showcase Alvernia’s student-centric approach to learning, but will actively nurture economic development in the city of Reading. This facility will house expanded business and communication programs, new majors in industrial, electrical and mechanical engineering, modern student residences, and a state-of-the-art esports suite. It will also be home to Alvernia’s O’Pake Institute for Economic Development and Entrepreneurship’s student-powered business incubator, which enables students to work with businesses and entrepreneurs in the community, applying what they’ve learned in the classroom. Nearly 40 percent of Alvernia undergraduates are student athletes. Alvernia’s Golden Wolves compete at the NCAA Division III level and have made 35 appearances in championships tournaments, with baseball appearing 14 times! Men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s golf, and men’s and women’s tennis have also appeared in respective tournaments, as have field hockey and softball. Alvernia is proud to be the Golden Wolves, and its pack ranks in the top 100 among best regional universities in the North by U.S. News & World Report and the University is recognized as a College of Distinction for its commitment to engaged, experiential education.
