  • Be Extraordinary at Allegheny College

Choosing a college is about more than selecting a major or finding a campus that feels like home. It’s about discovering a place that encourages curiosity, supports ambition, and prepares you to navigate a complex, ever-changing world. At Allegheny College, your education is built on the belief that your interests do not have to fit neatly into one box. In fact, some of the most powerful learning happens at the intersections, where science meets ethics, where art informs policy, and where passion becomes purpose. Located in Meadville, Pennsylvania, Allegheny College is a nationally recognized liberal arts college known for its distinctive academic model: students choose both a major and a minor in different academic divisions. This approach challenges you to think broadly and creatively, while developing depth in your primary field of study. Whether you’re pairing biology with philosophy, environmental science with art, or business with computer science, Allegheny encourages you to make connections that reflect how the world actually works. Allegheny’s academic environment is shaped by small classes, close faculty mentorship, and a campus culture that prioritizes collaboration over competition. With a low student-to-faculty ratio, professors know students by name and invest deeply in their success. Faculty members are not only accomplished scholars and artists; they are teachers who invite students into research, performance, and real-world problem solving from the very beginning of their college experience. At Allegheny, learning is active, personal, and grounded in meaningful relationships. Experiential learning is woven into the fabric of an Allegheny education. Students engage in internships, undergraduate research, community-based projects, study away programs, and creative endeavors that extend learning beyond the classroom. Every student is supported in building skills, experiences, and professional connections that align with their goals, whether that leads to graduate school, meaningful employment, or service-oriented careers. Career exploration and preparation start early and evolve intentionally throughout your four years. Life on campus is vibrant and engaged, offering a balance of academic rigor and creative expression. Students participate in more than 100 clubs and organizations, including performing arts ensembles, athletic teams, leadership opportunities, and service initiatives. The performing and creative arts are central to campus life, providing opportunities for both majors and non-majors to perform, create, and collaborate. Athletics also play a significant role, with Allegheny competing in NCAA Division III and emphasizing teamwork, leadership, and balance. Allegheny’s location enhances its sense of community while providing access to meaningful opportunities. Meadville is a welcoming, safe college town with a strong tradition of civic engagement, environmental stewardship, and innovation. Students form lasting connections not only with one another, but also with the broader community through internships, service projects, and partnerships. The campus itself is known for its natural beauty and commitment to sustainability, reflecting Allegheny’s long-standing leadership in environmental education. Graduates of Allegheny College leave with more than a degree. They leave with the confidence to adapt, the skills to lead, and the perspective to make an impact. Alumni pursue diverse paths across science, medicine, law, education, business, public service, the arts, and emerging fields that didn’t exist a generation ago. In fact, 98 percent of Allegheny graduates are employed or in graduate school within six months of graduation. It’s no surprise that Allegheny is ranked #13 among the Most Innovative Schools by U.S. News & World Report and #5 in the Top 20 Schools for Making an Impact by The Princeton Review. Allegheny College invites you to imagine an education that embraces your complexity, encourages exploration, and prepares you for a future full of possibility.
