New Plymouth State Programs in Forensics, Game Design, and Sustainability

At Plymouth State University (PSU) you’ll gain real-world experience working on issues that you care about, and the University’s three new bachelor of science programs can set you up for success in today’s rapidly evolving marketplace.

STEM-Oriented Forensic Science

The forensic science program is geared toward both science and non-science students with a passion for investigation and problem-solving. It’s the only one of its kind offered by a New Hampshire public university or college. Courses in criminal justice, chemistry, psychology, computer science, biology, and anthropology are featured in this STEM-oriented program.

PSU’s program is unique because at other universities, access to laboratory equipment is generally restricted to graduate and post-doctorate students. PSU undergraduates train on lab equipment so they are ready to work in the forensics field when they graduate.

You can choose from one of three specialties: laboratory science, computer forensics (i.e., cyber-attacks) or forensic psychology. Projections indicate strong career growth opportunities with government agencies or private laboratories, in forensic life science, private investigation, and information security.

Focus Your Game Design Studies on Creative Media or Technology

Student-created games of increasing sophistication stem from studies in art, business, computer science, communication, and graphic design, along with game design principles and practice. You can focus in either Creative Media or Technology to position yourself for work as an innovative game designer, interactive web developer, digital artist, and in other related fields.

This exciting new program provides the skills needed in a rapidly advancing field, and the program offers a unique blend of both the hard and soft skills that employers prize.

You will benefit from a wide range of University resources, including state-of-the-industry equipment in a facility comparable to those among leading technical and research institutions. PSU’s robotics lab, video production suites, art galleries, computer labs, and other assets, including a planned eSports Club and dedicated lounge, combine to offer multiple pathways to explore, experiment, and master essential concepts.

Studies for a More Sustainable and Equitable Future

Become an “agent of change” who puts what you learn into action in your career and your life. You will develop combined skill sets in PSU’s sustainability studies program from fields including business, the social sciences, the arts and humanities, environmental science, and public health. Your grounding in science will be complemented by a crucial understanding of factors that affect human behavior and by acquiring communication skills needed to influence others.

The program engages students in interdisciplinary learning on local, national, and global scales. You will learn systems-thinking approaches for identifying and resolving sustainability-related problems and develop skills to promote equitable community, collaboration, and collective action while addressing sustainability-related challenges. The professional and transferable skills you learn will prepare you for careers in global corporations, government agencies, private practice, and other settings.

PSU’s Integrated Cluster Learning Model

Interdisciplinary hands-on, project-based work will challenge you to tackle real-world problems, and students in all of PSU programs benefit from the perspectives and experience of faculty members from multiple disciplines.

PSU Sees Faces, Not a Number

PSU looks closely at each applicant’s character, leadership qualities, initiative, and special talents, and sees you as a unique individual. At PSU, everyone wants to help you succeed. Academic Advising, Career Development, Plymouth Academic Support Services (PASS), and the Writing Center are among the many services designed for you.

Work Hard, Play Hard

Plymouth’s lively downtown is bordered by the White Mountain National Forest and New Hampshire’s scenic Lakes Region — perfect for hiking, biking, rock climbing, skiing, snowboarding, or just relaxing. Think of the campus as a laboratory, a classroom, and a playground.

PSU is within 30 minutes of some of New England’s best skiing at four major areas. Club and intramural sports encourage everyone to play, and the Outdoor Center offers free use of recreational equipment and sponsors trips, so you can learn or practice skills like rock climbing, paddling, surfing, and skiing.
