Universities traditionally have been the hub for advancing discovery, innovation, and the creation of new knowledge. At New York Institute of Technology, the focus is not only on transferring scientific knowledge but also in experimenting and creating new knowledge to address some of the world’s most pressing challenges.
New York Tech’s in-demand undergraduate, graduate, professional, and doctoral degree programs provide the next generation of physicians, engineers, scientists, architects, healthcare professionals, business leaders, and designers with the skills to pioneer the technological solutions of tomorrow — from leveraging bioinformatics to treat chronic diseases to designing greener buildings through thermal dynamics.

Empowering Students Through Research
Aspiring to achieve R2 research university status — recognized for “high research activity” by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education — New York Tech has dedicated more than 15 years to expanding research opportunities for faculty and students. By supporting distinguished faculty researchers, the university enables both undergraduate and graduate students to gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge equipment while learning from experts who are advancing their fields.
Students frequently participate in innovative research and initiatives across all six schools and colleges.
• More than 20 undergraduate and graduate students are working with a cognitive neuroscientist professor on projects that explore the connection between eye movement and perception, offering valuable insight into how people observe and interact with their environments.
• New research, led by a medical student and a cancer biologist at the College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM), aims to continue the historic work of a world-renowned Nobel laureate and explain why some human cells become cancerous, spread, and resist treatment.
• Funded by a grant from the United States Department of Defense, a New York Tech biomedical researcher and his students are researching new bone loss treatments for patients with spinal cord injuries.
Student researchers have received awards and recognition from agencies such as the U.S. Department of Defense, the American Heart Association, and Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology. After conducting research with faculty experts, many graduates secure competitive research positions or study at top institutions (including New York Tech’s own medical, health professions, and advanced degree programs).
Creating Pathways to High-Demand Degrees
A college degree is a serious investment with a high return, especially for New York Tech grads. In addition to having one of the lowest out-of-pocket tuition costs among private colleges in New York State, students have access to a test-optional admissions policy, a new honors college, and generous financial aid packages. Undergraduate merit scholarships are available for up to $40,000 per year, in addition to need-based aid, a generous transfer credit policy, co-op experiential programs, and graduate scholarships and assistantships.
Combined and accelerated (4+1) degree programs allow students to earn both an undergraduate and graduate degree in just five years. More than 30 programs with accelerated paths are available in health professions, architecture and design, engineering and computing sciences, counseling, and business. By earning two degrees in less time, students can save thousands of dollars in tuition and launch their careers faster. The university also offers four Ph.D. programs, including a combined D.O./Ph.D. in osteopathic medicine/biological sciences, and Ph.D. degrees in engineering, chemistry, and computer science, with more in development.
Advancing Discovery Through Entrepreneurship and Innovative Facilities
The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Academy, alongside a $5 million venture fund, focuses on igniting the next wave of groundbreaking startups. The academy offers immersive, hands-on experiences, expert mentorship, and state-of-the-art resources for entrepreneurs to turn big ideas into real-world impact, developing revolutionary technologies, launching high-potential ventures, and reshaping industries.
Students have access to numerous advanced facilities and high-tech research laboratories.
The Biomedical Research, Innovation, and Imaging Center advances research discoveries and inventions in life sciences, biomedical and biotechnology as well as imaging and microscopy. The center positions the university to tackle new frontiers in disease diagnostics and treatment, while contributing to Long Island’s prominence in life sciences research.
The College of Engineering and Computing Sciences’ Entrepreneurship and Technology Innovation Center (ETIC) provides students with access to practical experience and entrepreneurial skills. A New York Tech incubator near campus is part of a larger accelerator space currently hosting several companies.
Fabrication Labs connect architecture and design students with advanced digital maker fabrication technology, including computer-controlled laser cutters and 3-D printers.
At the Biomedical Sciences and Bioengineering Laboratory, students study how viruses may help combat antibiotic resistance.
In the Academic Health Care Centers, future healthcare professionals research Parkinson’s disease, heart disease, anatomy, concussions, and other important areas.

Building Careers Through Hands-On Learning Opportunities
New York Tech offers hands-on, experiential learning opportunities that help students gain a deeper understanding of their fields. Some students develop prototypes from NASA’s patents, while others participate in the College of Engineering and Computing Sciences co-op track, alternating between classroom study and full-time employment.
The University’s Internship Certificate Program allows students to build their résumés, earn income, and gain work experience before graduation. Students have secured internships and jobs at leading corporations and organizations, including Amazon, Northwell Health, JP Morgan Chase, the U.S. Navy, Tiffany & Co., Los Alamos National Laboratory, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, H2M architects + engineers, and Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
