It All Starts at Lehman

A perennial, national leader in promoting social mobility, Lehman College serves as an intellectual, economic, and cultural center for the Bronx, New York City, and beyond. The College — which sits on a tree-lined 37-acre campus — supports more than 13,000 undergraduate and graduate students, another 14,000 students in continuing and professional programs, and over 90,000 alumni.

Named after Herbert H. Lehman, a former U.S. senator, New York State governor, and internationalist, the College is guided by Lehman’s commitment to fundamental human rights and a dedication to public service.

Six Schools, Infinite Possibilities

Spread across six schools, Lehman offers more than 130 undergraduate and graduate degrees, 43 graduate certificates, two new doctoral programs as well as 11 other doctoral degrees offered in conjunction with the CUNY Graduate Center. Lehman is also a leader in online education with more than 15 fully online undergraduate and graduate programs.

Experiential education is fundamental to Lehman’s mission, and student research is a key component. Undergraduate and graduate students in natural, social, and health sciences have opportunities to work alongside faculty mentors in research areas ranging from AI and biomedicine to plant science and radioisotopes.

An Affordable Option

Lehman offers students a college education that doesn’t break the bank. Sixty percent of Lehman undergraduate students graduate debt free. Lehman was recently ranked #4 by U.S. News & World Report for Top Performers on Social Mobility for Regional Universities in the North, and #4 by Niche.com as a “Best Value College in New York.”

Investing in Your Future

Lehman recently opened the new $95 million Nursing Education, Research and Practice Center, a 52,000-square-foot facility that will enable Lehman’s highly ranked RN to BSN nursing program to triple its capacity amidst a statewide nursing shortage. This new state-of-the-art building aids in training aspiring nurses in a range of healthcare environments including a fully equipped ICU and a hospital ward with 22 high-tech patient simulators.

Launched in 2022, Lehman’s School of Business, the only public business school in the region, offers students unique hands-on experience and internship opportunities through their partnerships with high-profile companies such as DENTSU, Streetwise and Bloomberg. Students also have access to the Bloomberg Finance and Business Lab. This lab features Bloomberg terminals where, at no cost, students can earn their Bloomberg Finance Fundamentals (BFF), Market Concepts (BMC), and Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) Certifications.

The School of Natural and Social Sciences offers opportunities for students to conduct cutting-edge research with professors in various areas including cancer, malaria, and on-site archeological excavations in Latin America. SMART MDs, a program designed to guide and support students through the medical school application process, and PhD Promise, a commitment from Lehman faculty to help undergraduate students prepare for and apply to PhD programs, are two ways that Lehman supports undergraduates to take the next steps in their educational journey.

Lehman College’s School of Arts and Humanities offers vibrant programs in the performing and visual arts as well as the humanities, guiding students in developing their creativity, critical thinking skills, and problem-solving abilities. Lehman is home to a multimedia center that houses an acoustically designed recording studio, audio and video production control rooms, and eight editing suites.
